Enthusiastic and reluctant writers alike love Writing Adventures and our playful & positive approach to writing. An exciting, dynamic writing program plus so much more, Writing Adventures has dozens of unique themes and classes. Families can choose from offerings Monday-Saturday that utilize our original curriculum.  Our students improve their writing skills, become more effective communicators, expand their vocabulary, make new friends, and have more fun than you'd ever expect every single week in our variety of classes. All classes have a maximum of 10 students to ensure each writer receives plenty of individualized instruction and guidance. Classes below that are marked as a showcase class include a family showcase and writer's reception in May where writers are celebrated and have the chance to present their favorite writing piece from the school year. Registration is open and students can join class anytime!

Art & Writing Unite - Ages 8-11 Mondays 4:30-5:45 - Teacher: Riley Bassett Fridays 5:30-6:45 - Teacher: Marissa Filippis

Word Study and Spelling Club Ages 6-13 Mondays 3:30-4:30 - Teacher: Riley Bassett

Using the world-renowned Words Their Way curriculum, plus fun word study games and challenges, students strengthen their understanding of phonics, spelling, and word patterns. All levels welcome! We'll provide individualized lessons and word sorts, allowing students to work at their best pace. Different from traditional spelling programs, this class focuses on helping students examine sounds, recognize patterns, and deepen their understanding of the meaning of words, leading to improved spelling & vocabulary and a better connection to their own reading and writing.

Teen Homeschool Language Arts - Ages 13-16 Tuesdays 11am-12:15 - Teacher: Marissa Filippis

This engaging, hands-on class allows students to work at their own pace and deepen their understanding of many areas of language arts including grammar, punctuation, etymology, mechanics, vocabulary, and sentence structure. A new theme is introduced through a dynamic lesson and discussion each month centered on an a new unit.  From there, we support and encourage students as they challenge themselves to complete every work station in a 4-week period.

Teen Homeschool Creative Writing - Ages 13-16 Tuesdays 12:30-1:45 - Teacher: Marissa Filippis

The perfect complement to our Language Arts class, this course takes writers on an adventure through a variety of themes and genres throughout the year. Every other month, we cycle through new projects including comics, script and scene writing, fantasy, and science fiction, giving students a portfolio of writing to be treasured forever. This is the ideal class setting for students to perfect their writing and revising process, make new friends, develop presentation skills, and foster a love of writing.  *Showcase class. *showcase class

Writing Essentials I, II, and III $79.00/month

Our Writing Essentials courses focus on crucial writing styles and techniques including expository writing, persuasive writing, and analytical writing. Through these classes, writing assignments that may have once seemed intimidating or overwhelming become understandable and enjoyable. Students in any of our Writing Essentials courses learn to write with clarity, develop ideas, and strengthen their understanding of each step in the writing process. Each level of Writing Essentials is designed to meet and exceed the writing standards of that specific age group and grade level. Students are welcome to utilize the last 15 minutes of each weekly class for specific help with school writing assignments as needed.

  Writing Essentials I - Ages 7-8

 Students develop their skills in composing detailed sentences & well-written short paragraphs. This class includes lessons on developing strong word choice, conventions, and grammar. *showcase class

Writing Essentials II - Ages 9-11

 Thursdays 5:15-6:30 - Teacher: Marissa Filippis

Students develop their skills in composing detailed, fully-developed paragraphs and well-written short essays. This class includes lessons on research and citing evidence, strong introductions and conclusions, personal voice, and organization.*showcase class

Writing Essentials III - Ages 12-16

Wednesdays 4:00-5:15 - Teacher: Riley Bassett

Students develop their skills in composing detailed, fully-developed essays and reports. This class includes lessons on powerful persuasion techniques, MLA formatting, citations, organization, literary analysis, and developing a personal voice in narratives. *showcase class

 

WATV - Ages 8-14

WATV is a student-produced news show informing our viewers of all the latest important happenings at the Writing Adventures studio and in the writing world. Students take part in writing, filming, and editing our news show, plus anchoring and reporting the segments, putting together a new episode monthly. This is a fast-paced and exciting class as students must work together to reach deadlines every month! Get ready to learn more about journalism, production, and presentation in this brand new class! *Class limited to 6 students!*

WA Book Club - Ages 9-13

Enthusiastic and reluctant readers alike are welcome in the new WA Book Club! A new book with an enthralling story and characters is chosen every other month. The hardest part of WA Book Club is trying not to read these books all in one sitting! Each week, chapters and characters from our book come to life through lively discussions, games, and art projects. Through each book club meeting, students become stronger readers and speakers and develop a deeper understanding of literary elements,  an expanded vocabulary, and stronger empathy.

 Writing Adventures has partnered with the Blue Elephant's Trunk to bring dramatic play and career exploration to adventurers ages 5-7! Each week, a new profession is introduced to students through an exciting book, dramatic play, costumes & uniforms, and irresistible materials. Over six fun weeks, kids will become geologists, bakers, mail carriers, veterinarians, and more! We'll end each class with approachable and engaging writing projects related to that week's career. A truly one-of-a-kind experience that will nurture your child's confidence, social skills, & writing skills, and give them an outlet for creative play and expression.
